Conor McGregor is poised to leave the UFC for bare-knuckle boxing once his current contract ends. The former two-division champion has just one fight left on his deal, but an ACL and meniscus injury will keep him out until well into 2027. BKFC chairman Dave Feldman believes the move is likely, but only if McGregor avoids further harm in his next bout.
The Window Is Narrow
McGregor had surgery earlier this month and must finish his recovery before stepping back into the Octagon. He is already a stakeholder in BKFC and has shown interest in competing there. Feldman told SunSport that the timing is key. “He’s really looking forward to coming back and getting that last fight under his belt,” Feldman said. This approach frees him to compete in the BKFC. And I really do think you see that happening.
This path is not guaranteed. The final UFC bout serves as a gatekeeper. If the fight goes south or causes new damage, the plan could vanish. Feldman made the condition clear to reporters. “Obviously, it depends on what happens with this next fight,” he said. What About a Boxing Match?
There is also chatter about a boxing match with Islam Makhachev. According to LowKick MMA, Makhachev stated that Turki Alalshikh set up a call to discuss a deal. Makhachev said McGregor was receptive, saying, “Yes, I am down.” However, no formal agreement exists yet. Makhachev noted that UFC CEO Dana White was present and would have a major say in any crossover.
These talks remain in the early stages. Makhachev did not name the event, dates, or money involved. He admitted he is not a high-level boxer but believes he can handle MMA fighters on their feet. “I am not a high level boxer but I can handle myself with other MMA fighters on the feet,” Makhachev said. The UFC must clear any such match, and it would likely tie into Zuffa Boxing.
