Kittle’s Five-Word Post Proves The 49ers Are Back In Hunt

George Kittle reacted instantly to the DeForest Buckner trade. His five words show the 49ers defense is reloaded for a Super Bowl run.

Michael Penix Jr. is no longer just a project; he is the quarterback Atlanta needs right now. After leading a 29-20 comeback against the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday, Oct. 25, the doubt is fading fast. He threw three touchdowns with zero interceptions, proving he can handle the pressure of a big game. This isn’t a fluke. It is a pattern of growth that fans have been waiting for since the draft.

Penix finished the game completing 25-of-34 passes for 213 yards. That kind of efficiency against a top-tier defense shows he is ready to lead this team. He has posted 1,157 passing yards, nine touchdowns, and only one interception so far this season. His 109.1 passer rating ranks fourth in the NFL among starters. These numbers tell the story of a player who is finding his footing quickly.

The Calm Under Pressure

What stands out most is his mindset. When the Falcons needed a spark, Penix stayed cool while the defense held firm. Falcons wide receiver Drake London noticed this trait immediately. London said, “He’s the calmest one out there. He just deals. That’s just MP.” That poise is exactly what a young quarterback needs to survive in the NFL. He does not panic when the crowd gets loud or the defense blitzes hard.

Head coach Kevin Stefanski agreed with that assessment after the game. Stefanski noted, “Mike was really good throughout the day.” He praised how Penix read the 49ers’ defense, which entered the game ranked fourth in the league. The coach added, “That’s a very good defense; they’re excellent. And they don’t give up big plays. We took our shots when we had them, and when we didn’t, I think Mike saw it really well.”

Protection and Process

Penix had help from the offensive line, which kept him clean all afternoon. ESPN’s Nick Wagoner reported that Penix faced pressure just three times during his 34 dropbacks. That protection allowed him to work through his progressions without fear. Penix himself credited the line for their hard work. He stated, “I don’t remember being hit too many times at all.” He also said, “To see those guys, the work that they put in every day throughout the week, for them to come out this game, and I don’t get pressured much at all – it’s awesome to be able to see.”

His approach to the game is simple and effective. He focused on avoiding mistakes and playing the team’s style. Penix explained his mindset: “Just making sure we didn’t make any mistakes and go out there and play our brand of football.” He knows his teammates can make plays if he gets them the ball. He added, “We’ve got guys around with the skillset to get open. So for me, I just got to find a way to get them the ball whenever that opportunity is there.”

The Path Forward

Running back Bijan Robinson sees the growth happening in real time. Robinson said, “I think he’s been growing a lot as a player and doing a lot of great stuff for the offense. He wants to continue to get better. But his process has been really good.” Penix has started 17 games in his career and is 3-2 this season. NFL insider Ian Rapoport noted that Atlanta is starting to believe he can be a top-10 or 12 quarterback. Rapoport said, “We’ve got a long season and he’s gotta stay healthy, but Michael Penix Jr. is going a long way to making life very very easy for the Atlanta Falcons organization knowing that they have a guy at quarterback.”

The next test comes on Sunday, Nov. 1, at Raymond James Stadium against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Penix has shown he can handle the big stage. If he stays healthy, the conversation shifts from “if” to “when” he becomes the franchise leader. The fans in Atlanta deserve a quarterback who stays calm, makes smart reads, and trusts his team. That is exactly what we are seeing now.
