A major soda maker sent free drinks to upset Alabama fans shortly after their team lost to Georgia. The brand Dr Pepper offered free beverages at a specific spot in Tuscaloosa on Thursday. This move came after a controversial referee call helped seal the loss for the Crimson Tide. The company admitted they saw what happened on the field during that Saturday game.
The loss to Georgia was a tough one for the team and the fans. Alabama lost by three points, 20-17. The game ended when a pass-interference call was not made on a crucial play. Near the end zone, wide receiver Rico Scott attempted a pass thrown by quarterback Keelon Russell. A Georgia defender knocked Scott off his path, but the official did not throw a flag. On the next play, the Bulldogs sacked Russell, and Alabama never got the ball back.
A Sweet Gesture From Fansville
Dr Pepper sponsors the College Football Playoffs and often makes ads about bad calls. The brand decided to do something nice for the fans who were hurt by the non-call. According to Yahoo Sports, Dr Pepper posted a message on X that read, “CFB fans in Tuscaloosa, we saw what happened Saturday.” The message continued, “The citizens of Fansville wanted to send a little something your way… Head to Rounders @ 1215 University Blvd, Tuscaloosa, AL 35401 tonight for some Dr Pepper on us (while supplies last)!”
This location on University Blvd was open for fans to grab a free drink. The offer was valid while supplies lasted. It was a small way to cheer up a city that felt let down by the officials. The company used its fictional college town of Fansville to connect with the real fans in Tuscaloosa. It showed that even big brands pay attention to the drama in the SEC.
The Coach Wants Control Back
While fans got a free soda, the head coach took a different approach to the loss. Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer did not want to blame the referees for the outcome. He said the team needs to focus on what they can manage. DeBoer said postgame, via WVTM 13, “We can’t put the game in that situation where the officials come into play. We’ve got to control the things we can control.”
DeBoer also noted that the officials did not feel it was pass interference. He accepted that the call was what it was. The team cannot change the past, so they must look forward. This mindset is necessary as the team prepares for their next big test. They need to bounce back quickly from the disappointment of the Georgia game.
Next Stop Is Knoxville
The Crimson Tide now travels to Knoxville to play the Tennessee Volunteers. This will be a hard game for Alabama to win. The Volunteers lost to Texas earlier in the season but are still a strong team. Alabama has not beaten Tennessee in Knoxville since 2020. The Tide lost the last two times they played there, once in 2022 and again in 2024.
After the game in Tennessee, Alabama returns home to play Texas A&M. Before traveling to Baton Rouge to play LSU, they will observe a bye week.
